Book Store Cleanout

Offered are the fixtures and book stock of New York Books in Scottsboro, AL. You will pay nothing for the stock and fixtures. You will be responsible for removing the stock and fixtures from Scottsboro without damage to the building.

Background: I am selling because of poor health. I am entering hospice. Since you are a dealer, we will not rehash the story of what has happened to used book dealers over the last 25 years. We date back to the Weatherford days on Alibris. If you had four high school English teachers and 20 families who read, you could have a village bookstore. Those days are gone.

Presently: We still sell 2 books a day on Amazon + a box or 2 a month to history or prof types. I will continue to do so as long as I am ambulatory. Friends and family got to pick over remains for Christmas. 

This Offer: The closest thing you will have to an inventory is the video (below).  The video depicts a workroom and 5 display rooms of books in categories. They are heavily weighted toward civil war and southern history, theology, rhetoric and language, respectable and modern literature human rights and philosophy. There might be a dozen more boxes of books in storage, but we have been going though through them pretty quickly. My guess is there are about 12k books.

To qualify to talk about this offer

      1. You will need to actually come to Scottsboro to see the material and understand the logistics.

      2. You will need to be an established dealer with a demonstrated ability to physically move 12K books. 

We understand the concept of a white elephant. We understand the transportation and labor costs. Yes, we could solve this problem with a big green dumpster. But in our souls we are still booksellers and would like to see these books have some more life. This will be a good day’s work for 2 people. To help underwrite your cleanout operation, we will comp you (1) night in our Airbnb. 

This cleanout includes books, library carts, shelves, and fixtures: anything that can be removed without damage. You are taking all of the books. All of them. You do not get to pick and choose. The job will be done when my widow says it is done. She needs to flip the building to other purposes. There are enough good titles in the mix to make it worth your while.
